Child Protective Services (CPS) identifies, assesses, and provides services to children who have been abused or neglected and to their families. It is designed to preserve families whenever possible, yet protect children and prevent further maltreatment. Call 434-972-4010.
Albemarle County Victim Witness Office
The office of the victim/witness program is located at the Albemarle County Police Department on County Office Building on 5th Street, Extended. If you are a victim of a crime or a witness to a crime in Albemarle County and wish to access their services, please contact them through the Police Department non-emergency number of 434-296-5807.
Charlottesville City Child Protective Services
Child Protective Services investigates or assesses the needs of children who are subject to abuse and/or neglect by their caregiver(s). Family assessments involve developing child safety and family services plans to remedy maltreatment and avoid future abuse. Charlottesville Victim/Witness Assistance Program
The Charlottesville Victim/Witness Assistance Program is designed to ensure that victims and witnesses of criminal offenses will receive fair and compassionate treatment throughout the judicial process. Call 434-970-3176.

Piedmont CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) recruits, screens, trains, supervises, and supports volunteers who are appointed to advocate for abused and neglected children and youth in the court system. Call 434-971-7515.

ReadyKids' Victims of Child Abuse Program (VOCA) provides no-cost counseling to children and families who have experienced trauma to help them begin healing and create safe environments. Established in 1969, Region Ten Community Services Board is part of a statewide network of 40 Community Service Boards working to provide mental health, intellectual disability and substance use services where they are needed – in the local community. Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA)
SARA, the Sexual Assault Resource Agency, serves children, men, and women who have been affected by sexual violence, as well as their families and friends, in Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson counties. SARA operates a 24-hour hotline at 434-977-7273, or they can be reached at their office at 434-295-7273.
Shelter for Help in Emergency (SHE) helps families, many of whom have experienced domestic violence and abuse. Services include a 24-hour hotline, shelter, counseling, case management, and more. Call the hotline at (434)-293-8509.
Women’s Initiative provides mental health counseling to adults, many of whom have been victims of abuse as children and/or adults. Services include individual counseling, support groups, workshops and social support, and a walk-in wellness clinic. Call 434-872-0047.
