  • People who abuse children look and act just like everyone else.
  • Those who sexually abuse children are drawn to settings where they can gain easy access to children, such as sports leagues, faith centers, clubs, and schools.
  • In the Adverse Childhood Experiences study, 20.7% of the 17,337 adult participants reported that they had been physically abused as children.

Emotional Abuse
  • In a 2012 report, the American Academy of Pediatrics stated that "psychological maltreatment is one of the most common forms of child abuse, but also one of the most difficult to identify and prevent."
  • Where sexual abuse or physical abuse or neglect is present, emotional abuse is almost always present.
  • In the Adverse Childhood Experiences study, 10.6% of the 17,337 adult participants reported that they had been physically abused as children.
